Our doves are bred from generations of birds that were easily able to return home from hundreds of miles away and over unfamiliar territory. Throughout their training our birds have flown from all directions and return to their loft, They love to fly and are in top condition.
Our birds are kept in a loft that promote optimum safety, and health. We never keep more doves than our lofts can comfortably accommodate. We are ever vigilant for the slightest sign of any health problems and we keep proper medication on hand for when it is needed.
Our birds are not to be released in stormy weather, extreme heat, indoors, strong winds, or too close to sunset, etc. The safety of the birds come first, no exceptions!
Our birds are given ample play time and are allowed to fly around their surrounding area (loft flying) after which they are called in and fed healthy well balanced meals that often include supplements to boost their immunity and keep them fit.
Our birds take regular baths that often contain special salts that will cleanse, condition, and remove external parasites from the birds feathers. They are allowed to rear some young every year so they can enjoy a natural and full life. Every pair chooses it's own nest, every young bird has it's own perch. The birds have their own special little piece of territory which makes them love home completely and gives each bird a sense of security, peace, and contentment.
Our specially bred White Homing Pigeons belong to the Columbidae group, which is the family of pigeons and doves. The wild Rock Dove has an amazing homing ability and will return daily to its own nest, and its mate. This has made it relatively easy to breed birds that find their way home over very long distances, as in pigeon racing.
Homing pigeons have been recorded on flights as long as 1,100 mi (1,800 km) in pigeon racing. Their average flying speed over a distance of 500 miles is about 50 mph (80 km/h), but speeds of up to 110 mph (177 km/hr) have been observed in top racers for short distances (100 miles).
Unfortunately, not all who provide white doves for release are ethical. Some will even sell the smaller cousin of the release dove, the Ringneck Dove. These small birds have very little homing ability and frequently will not survive after a release. Please Click Here for an excellent article by the American Dove Association which covers the difference between the two types of dove.
